finely woven...

Posted by paul yanacopoulos-gross on

As we all return from our holidays, my mind already embarks on a voyage to a distant plain. To the gentle rolling landscapes of the Malawi foot hills and their master caners.. hand weaving and constructing these timeless chairs from tall prairie grass and roughly hewn gum tree. I initially imported 6 for personal use but it rapidly became obvious that there was a welcome place within our carefully selected and treasured HomeStories family of homewares, furnitures and lighting... These woven beauties are available to order online and instore.

fibrous souls.....

Posted by paul yanacopoulos-gross on

You will probably have noticed by now that we have a thing for baskets... no we were not dropped off by a stork in one, no we were not born to a family of market traders nor born to a master weaver, just born simply passionate about them... not all of them mind you. In fact we are very particular! The weave, shape and size are all important and our search and passion has taken us from Spain to Tunisia via Morocco, from Tanzania and Kenya to Mexico. Iringa grass, sisal, sea rush, palm leaf and esparto woven into simple essential forms seduce us... We've been captivated in our photography by them too, we find peace here as we explore their texture and...

'ghostly' white beauty

Posted by paul yanacopoulos-gross on

Crumpled, casual and comfortable, Paola Navone's 'Ghost' love seat for Gervasoni1882 has become quite the classic and justifiably so...! It's timeless and quite the chameleon, changing coats to fit in everywhere. Play 'Ghost' relaxed, 'Ghost' refined and elegant or 'Ghost' beach house comfy...! Our preference is for 'Ghost' informal and crisp in white linen.. Use it, boil it, iron at will, fit it, use it, timeless, practical and useable beauty at its best...   and now available 'quickship' to your door in 2 weeks

brush stories

Posted by paul yanacopoulos-gross on

Our home interiors are extensions and reflections of our inner selves. We need to tidy, to clean and to make space for the new! Sweeping is a truly meditative act. So much more than a chore, it is purposeful, functional and fulfilling... using a beautiful brush only enhances the experience and makes cleaning a truly aesthetic pleasure.  Our palm leaf and eucalyptus brushes are used in the Maghreb to sweep away the dust from the Medina floors and are perfect for both indoor and outdoor use... Sweepingly :)

Bridging the divide

Posted by paul yanacopoulos-gross on

This image incapsulates many stories. The story of the Amazonian tribespeople that are no more. Killed off by occidental, corporate greed and disease as industrial needs for more palm oil and soya bean reduce the Forrest floor, forcefully removing all inhabitants... The makers of these most beautiful baskets had no contact with western 'civilisation' . Their baskets made for their own use, for transporting and storing the fruits and vegetables collected in the jungle. Crafted from vine they are woven into light and resistant geodesic dome structures that are incredibly strong. The story of these vintage Chinese peasant work tables from the 19th century. Hewn from solid elm and standing the test of time and intense labour as their surfaces...

Fall Stories: Starring our Chaise Nicolle!

Posted by paul yanacopoulos-gross on

Dear Friends,As Halloween beckons, and the ghosts and ghouls prepare their ghastly outings, HomeStories is delighted to share some fall warmth and poetry with you. We invite you to discover the CHAISE NICOLLE, a wonderful French industrial chair, designed initially for factory use in 1933 by metallurgist Pierre-André Nicolle. The CHAISE NICOLLE was born into a time of industrial greatness and innovation. France lived an industrial heyday in the period between the 2 great wars. Pioneers in design and engineering, art and architecture, used new materials and technologies pushing the boundaries to create for an optimistic and enthusiastic clientele.  Formed, riveted and spot welded sheet metal offered new sculptural and structural possibilities. Self-supporting forms removed the need for armatures, freeing up the designs...

We couldn't be more blessed to bring Tione into our HomeStories Family. His gentle way of being, extensive knowledge of interiors and home furnishing and dedication to retail has brought new life and movement into our business and lives.  Tione Trice has spent the last 10 years exploring the relationship between consumer and goods. This journey has taken him around the US setting up retail practices, building brand awareness and cultivating new talent.  Tione has found a new home in his partnership with HomeStories. From his initial encounter with Paul and Sophie it was clear to all involved that this was the beginning of a lasting relationship.   "This team we have created is about truth, transparency, and innovation. I look forward to every day with...
